Match jobs to drivers and vehicles with the right capabilities
Use Options when a job needs equipment or handling that only part of your team can provide.
Choose requirements that change who can do the work
A furniture delivery might need a liftgate and a driver trained in the team's furniture-handling process. Keep them as two options, because the equipment belongs to the vehicle and the handling skill belongs to the worker.
| Option | Allowed on | Where to assign it |
|---|---|---|
| Liftgate | Job and Vehicle | The job that needs it, and each vehicle equipped with one |
| Furniture handling | Job and Worker | The job that needs it, and workers your team has approved for that work |
During automatic dispatch, the driver and their assigned vehicle together must cover every required option. In this example, the driver supplies Furniture handling and the vehicle supplies Liftgate. One of those two capabilities alone is insufficient.
Use a custom field for information such as uniform size. Use an option for a requirement that should narrow the eligible driver pool. The option records your team's decision; RouteIQ does not inspect equipment or verify a worker's training.
Create the options in Settings
Use an administrator account in the correct site.
- Open Settings → Options and select Add Option.
- Enter Name as “Liftgate” and a short Description explaining when it is needed.
- Under Applicable Entities, select Job and Vehicle. This controls where staff can assign the option.
- Keep Active enabled and select Create.
- Repeat for “Furniture handling,” allowing it on Job and Worker.
Use one shared option for each capability. Names are unique within a site. Creating an option does not add it to any worker, vehicle, or job automatically.
Record who and what can meet the requirements
- Open Workers, edit a suitable driver, and select Furniture handling in Options. Save the record.
- Open Vehicles, edit a vehicle with a liftgate, and open Specifications. Select Liftgate in Options and save the record.
- Confirm that the driver is using the intended vehicle. Automatic matching reads the driver's assigned vehicle, so a capability on an unrelated fleet vehicle does not satisfy the job.
- Reopen both records and check the saved options.
Keep those assignments current when equipment changes or a driver switches vehicles. Only tag a worker or vehicle when it actually provides the capability.
Add the requirements to a job
- Start a new job and enter its customer, stops, and service.
- Open Job settings and select Liftgate and Furniture handling under Options.
- Review the job and its price estimate, then save when it is ready for your normal dispatch process.
Automatic dispatch checks the job's options together with any requirements already attached to its service type. This walkthrough adds the requirements directly to the job.
Options can also be used by pricing rules. Adding an option does not by itself define an extra charge; configure that separately in pricing and earnings.
Verify with a controlled test job
Use test workers and a test job in a site where you can control dispatch. Saving a job may start automatic dispatch if the site is configured that way.
- Prepare one available driver whose own options and assigned vehicle cover both requirements, and one otherwise comparable driver who is missing one.
- Create a job requiring both options and check the available-driver ETA preview. Requirements help narrow that preview, but schedules, availability, and other dispatch settings still matter.
- Run your normal automatic-dispatch flow and confirm that the driver missing a requirement does not receive the offer.
- Repeat after changing the test driver's assigned vehicle, if your operation regularly swaps vehicles.
For a manual assignment, check the selected driver and vehicle against the job's requirements yourself. Do not treat a driver appearing in a manual assignment list as proof that all options are covered.

Troubleshooting
An option is missing from a picker
Check that it is active and allows that entity type. A vehicle-only option will not appear for a new job unless Job is also selected under Applicable Entities.
No driver qualifies
Check every required option, including service-type requirements, against each driver's options and assigned vehicle. Then check the site's other dispatch conditions, such as availability, schedule, team, or zone.
A vehicle has the option but its driver is excluded
Confirm that it is the vehicle currently assigned to that driver. Also check for a second requirement that only the worker can satisfy.
A disabled option is still visible on an existing record
Existing assignments can remain visible for editing. Deactivating an option controls new selection; it does not clear that option from every job, worker, or vehicle. Review existing assignments when retiring a requirement.
